What is divorce mediation?
Divorce mediation is a collaborative, problem solving process. This means that both spouses must agree to participate. The process is voluntary, no one is forced into mediation. The mediator works for BOTH spouses and helps them reach mutually satisfactory agreements regarding all of the items that will need to be agreed upon to finalzie their divorce. Everything will be thouroughly explained which ensures that each spouse gets exactly what they need from their agreements.
Mediation will help spouses make agreements regarding spousal support, division of assets, division of debts, financial support of the children, a parenting plan (depending on the age of their children), and much more.
How long is the divorce mediation process?
This depends on the flexibility of you and your spouse, the complexity of your case and other specific circumstances. That said, the average divorce mediation takes 3-6 sessions and 2-3 months to complete. More complex cases can take 3 to 6 months (or longer).
How much does divorce mediation cost?
Our mediation services are based on an hourly fee. There is no retainer fee and services are “pay as you go.” Payment is due at the end of each session. We accept payment by credit card, cash or check. If you are mediating virtually, then we will accept payment by credit card or bank card. Mediation typically saves clients at least 40 percent of what they would pay to litigate. In divorce, most often the entire mediation process and finalization process will cost less than the attorney retainer fees involved in litigation. Mediation provides a significant benefit financially (and emotionally).
